Lieutenant General Stephen M Twitty US Army Sign





   Stephen M. Twitty is a United States Army General Officer. Lieutenant General Twitty assumed command of First Army on July 15, 2016. Previously, he was commanding general of Fort Bliss and 1st Armored Division. Twitty was awarded the Silver Star Medal, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has served five combat tours in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait. He has commanded at the Company, Battalion, and Brigade level during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Twitty is a distinguished military graduate of South Carolina State University (1985) and a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He was inducted into the South Carolina State University ROTC Hall of Fame in 2009, and selected as one of the University's Distinguished Alumni in 2004.

   He has a highway named in his honor, State Highway 11, running through his hometown of Chesnee, South Carolina.

   Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Twitty is a native of Chesnee, South Carolina and a graduate of Chesnee High School. Twitty also holds a Master of Science degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University.

   General Twitty is a member of A. L. Post 48 Chesnee.
